Older cable insulation just disintegrated Sep 16, 2010
By William J. Glenn
"Bill"
The original cable supplied with the Amazon Kindle was manufactured with totally inferior outer insulation. This cable should be better but the original cable's outer, white insulation simply disintegrated and falls off in little pieces. I've never seen a wire insulation do that before in my entire life. This has got to be a China thing. Good grief.

For those that say it "didn't fit your kindle" .... Apr 01, 2011
By Gregory Then you do not have a "FIRST Generation Kindle"!
The original kindle takes this cable (The larger plug kind), while later Kindles take the smaller plug.
If you aren't sure which you are, if you do not have the silver side navigation tool, you are NOT the First Generation Kindle, and this cable will not work for you.
For those with the actual First Gen Kindle - this IS the cable that you need; the smaller cable for the newer Kindles will NOT work for you :-)

Cord disintegrates!!!! Aug 03, 2011
By M. Stinson
"M. Stinson"
I just called customer service who told me that the reason my cord (which has been kept in a drawer with other chargers cords that I have)has just FALLEN APART is because I have not used it in 6 months!!! Yes, that's right, she told me that if I had electricity passing through the cord within that six months that the cord would not have disintegrated and electrocuted me!!! SERIOUSLY!?!?!?! And oh, by the way, your warranty is up, so pay another $10 for an inferior cord that apparently needs an electric current to keep the plastic around the cord from CRUMBLING & FALLING OFF!!! PIECE OF CRAP, but what choice do I have to charge the overpriced Kindle I bought in 2009???????

Different cables for my Kindle. Aug 25, 2010

This didn't work on my Kindle, gave it to a friend and it worked great on his. I would think all Kindles would use the same chargers.
