so cute, but so far don't stay on Nov 05, 2009
By Sarah Longwell-Stevens I love these shoes. But I can't seem to really get his foot all the way in and they come off frequently. They are still too large so maybe it will get better as his foot gets bigger--but since they are hard to get on now I don't foresee that happening. I'm very glad I got these on sale, otherwise I would have been very disappointed. I think Robeez would be easier to get on.
Fantastic shoes, though the brown is more orange-brown than pictured Jul 16, 2010
By ShannonAnna With my daughter, we typically used Robeez or generic brands of them (like ministar from Target), which worked developmentally (with a flexible enough sole for babies learning to walk). They got scuffed easily, though, and the patterns were cute for playtime but not as classy as other brands. Plus the soles were so thin that didn't offer much more protection than being barefoot.
Enter baby two and my discovery of Smaller by See Kai Run. We got our first pairs on sale, but if we're blessed with a third baby, I'd be willing to pay full price. The colors are similar to the picture (bright red leather with a warm brown leather), but the brown was a little warmer than expected (slightly orange-ish). The soles are brown as well (but more suede-like). Under the ball of the foot and the heel, they have a round piece of thin plastic - thin enough for babies to still feel the ground well and thus develop feet muscles for walking but thick enough to offer protection outdoors. I did knock off one star, though, because I expected the brown to be less orange-y so these didn't match as much of his wardrobe as I had expected (though we did use them plenty!).
They also run true to size (except I would go by the size rather than age; both of my kids had small feet as babies, so they wear smaller sizes than the age recommendations). If you're not sure about size, you can have your child's feet measured at Stride Rite stores without buying any shoes there (unless you want to, of course!).
