Super thin and overpriced Dec 11, 2010
By Chris
"cacfus"
Got this in the mail today. Cute picture but totally overpriced. They are way too flimsy and feel cheap. Almost like a disposable placemat. I would not recommend this product.

Color comes off May 04, 2011
By LG The designs on these place mats are adorable, but the color comes off very easily. We got a truck one and I thought the ink came off because I was using vinegar to clean it sometimes. I tried getting another one and I've used a very mild soap. The same thing is happening. It looks awful and I can't imagine it's great for kids to eat the ink. I am very disappointed with this product.

The kids love 'em. Apr 17, 2010
By SASLW I bought several of these with various patterns, a move I regret. I should have bought several of the same design, because my kids love them so much that they fight over which one they're going to eat with. I had actually expected it to be a little thicker and padded, but they are flat and thin, about the thickness of a CD but flexible- they can be rolled up. They hold up well to spills, although chewing on it does cause some wear and tear.

Polypropylene and Attractive, But Has Factual Errors and Is Likely to Lose Colors Quickly May 08, 2011
By ReviewerWhoPrefersToBeAnonymous On the plus side, the placemat is made of polypropylene, not PVC (vinyl) which might cause health effects if a youngster is exposed to a lot of it. Also, it's attractive to look at, with eye-catching colors and forms.
On the minus side, it has some factual errors, some perhaps due to its not being updated since 2004. (1) Although advertised as a "Dinosaur Placemat," it depicts a phytosaur, which was a crocodile-like reptile that lived at the time of some dinosaurs but was not a dinosaur. (2) It says (in small print near the edge) "the largest dinosaur was the Brachiosaurus." Unfortunately, Brachiosaurus was only about 85 feet long and 40 tons in weight, and a number of dinosaurs were larger than that, including Argentinosaurus at almost 100 feet long and almost 100 tons. (3) It says "The smartest dinosaur was Troodontids." Since "Troodontids" is plural and shouldn't be capitalized, the sentence should say "The smartest dinosaurs were troodontids." (4) It says "The fastest dinosaur was the Ornithomiminee." That should probably be phrased and spelled "...dinosaurs were the Ornithomimidae." (5) It says "The smallest dinosaur was Compsognathus," yet dinosaurs such as Parvicursor were probably smaller. (6) It says "Stegosaurus had the smallest brain of all the dinosaurs." While Stegosaurus had the smallest brain relative to its size, the brains of tiny dinosaurs such as Parvicursor were probably smaller.
As another downside, the colors are on the surface, as opposed to laminated placemats in which the colors are protected by clear plastic. So it's likely to lose its colors quickly; in fact, it says in the corner "avoid abrasives." Overall, three stars.
Great looking, but not durable Jan 01, 2012
By Kristen My son absolutely loves this placemat. It has so many different varieties of animals and we enjoy talking about it at meal time. However, like other reviewers have noted, the color comes off. I have only ever used cold water and dish soap, but still the color is coming off. We also have the solar system placemat from the same company, and it is in great condition - I have no idea what the difference is!
