Cute and functional! Feb 08, 2008

Reasons we chose this highchair:
1. Folds up
2. Color/design
3. Extra seat cover
This purchase was a truly pleasant surprise among the many not so pleasant surprises when it comes to baby gear! The reasons we chose this highchair lived up to our expectations and beyond.
The Contempo models (we bought the Birkshire color which doesn't seem to be available but was brown like the Kasbah one) fold surprisingly flat. And they fold easily. I was worried folding would be a chore and therefore wouldn't happen, but it's easy enough that it happens after every use at our house. It is not a one-handed process, but it is quick and easy. In its folded position, this highchair would slide along side a fridge or into a pantry or broom closet. We keep ours in a small space next to our pantry cabinet.
We liked the colors and designs of the Contempo models because they weren't cutesy and bright and fit better into our kitchen and dining room and didn't stand out like the uninvited elephant in the room.
I loved the idea of having an extra seat cover when I read about the Contempo and I have found it very convenient to always have a clean one ready, since you KNOW they are gonna get messy. I was a little dismayed the first time I tried to switch the covers but after doing it a couple of times, it is plenty easy and convenient. I guess I should note that I strayed from the recommendations of only wiping these covers and spot cleaning and I have been throwing them in the washer on a cool/gentle cycle. They seem to come out great! I just hang them to dry and it doesn't seem to take long because of what they're made of. I also admit that I didn't really read the instructions for removing the seat cover the first time and so I probably could have had an easier time.
My ONE complaint about this chair is the tray insert....ours came with an insert that goes on the main tray which is smaller and easier to put in the dishwasher or sink than washing the main one, BUT my baby figured out the first time in the chair (at 10 months) that she could lift it off and throw it on the floor. I thought it would get forgotten and she would get used to it staying there but she didn't and after a month or so I gave up and put the insert away.
I haven't had any staining problems some people mentioned in reviews of the Graco chairs - the tray being easily stained by colored food - but I also wipe or rinse the tray immediately after a meal and don't let food sit on it at all.
As a side note, for cleaning baby items like this with a lot of spots where food and stuff get stuck and hidden, I have a steam cleaner with a little power nozzle that focuses the steam and it works great! Plus, the steam sanitizes surfaces - although I still use a germ spray for in between major cleaning.
One concern we've had as parents is the possibility of a baby pulling the folded chair over on top of themself. It is skinny in its folded position and could topple over if left in the open or unprotected on one side.
Overall, we are very happy with our Graco Contempo highchair!

Top rated, except... Sep 20, 2007
By QueenMAB We bought this high chair because it was top rated on Consumer Reports. We love most of its features. It really is easy to assemble. Everything is very easy to do one handed. The tray slides on and snaps into place very easily. It's easy to clean. I love the choice between 5-point and 3-point harnessing. Our 9-month old doesn't need the shoulder straps, so it's nice to be able to only strap her waist in.
My main complaint is the dishwasher-safe tray insert. I thought it was a great idea, and in theory it is - until you use it. Anytime my husband or I put our arms on the tray of the highchair (say as we're reaching across it to feed our daughter), it rips out our arm hair. I thought it was just a strong static shock at first until I noticed a bald patch.
Without the tray insert, it's the best highchair we've ever used. You just have to choose between having pain-filled, easy cleaning, or having to work a bit harder to get the tray clean.

Perfect highchair with tons of features! Jan 30, 2008
By MAK We purchased this chair for our 4 month old. I have tested and looked at many highchairs and this one was best for us. I love the recline feature as my baby can have her bottle reclined. I like the compact design as it folds very slim. It is constructed very well and does not wobble. The seat can be lowered to any height so you can pull it up to the table and have your child eat with the rest of the family. The vinyl cover pattern is dark so it hides any stains and blends perfectly with our kitchen decor.
It comes with a built in smaller tray underneath the larger removable tray and both are great and easy to use. I like that there is a divider attached to the smaller tray so that my baby will never slide out of the chair. The restraint system is very easy to use and can be undone with one hand. You have a choice whether to use the shoulder straps or not. I have purchased a couple of graco removable toys at Babies R Us that I insert into the two holes on the small or large tray. This keeps my baby occupied during her feedings.
The only possible drawback (not an issue for us) is if you have a very large/chubby baby. It might be a tight fit so check it out at the store first. Other than that it's the perfect chair and looks very stylish. I would definitely buy this one again.

Decent but not great Apr 11, 2009
By M. Maday I purchased this highchair because I liked the idea of the extra tray that pulls off to clean and it's slim fold design. The tray is great and very convienient to clean! It turns out I never fold it since it's used so frequently. The issue that I have with it and why I gave it three stars is that my daughter leans to the side and gets her elbow/arm stuck in between the legs and the seat. She starts screaming and I have to manuever her arm to free her. I thought she would grow out of it but we purchased it when she was six months, she is now eleven months, and it still happens...although not as frequently.

Great Chair, but a little tough to clean Mar 31, 2008
By DandL's Mom We have been using this chair for a a few months with our now 11 month old, and it is a great chair. We love the neutral color. The straps release very quickly, as I learned when my son was choking a little when he started solids. One quick push of the latch and the lap belt and shoulder straps popped open and he was out very quickly, which I think is a huge positive. The only reason I don't give it five stars is it is difficult to clean -- I find removing the chair pad and replacing it challenging. I still highly recommend.
