We live near the beach and visit frequently, and I'm always looking for ways to cut down on how much we are carrying out onto the beach. So I was immediately attracted to the nesting quality of these pails. The pails do completely nest, and so it's nice to have four pails while only feeling like we carried out one.
Also with the frequency that we use sand toys plus how often they are packed in and out of the vehicle, I really need sand toys that are very durable. These pails are made of a quality, thick plastic and will take a good beating. These are not those cheap, thin pails that will crack soon after use. The handle on the one pail is also pretty good quality...not the absolute best I've seen but still very good.
The mold on the top works well enough. My kids are more interested in creating castle turrets than using the pails for the mold. But for those kids who like the molds, they will work fine.
Very happy with the purchase and I'll try the other Melissa and Doug Seaside products as well.

Bought these for my 1 yr old granddaughter to use at the beach, but she has just as much fun putting things in & taking them back out. They are VERY colorful & fun to use. My only complaint is they should all have handles. Otherwise, a good gift for the price!

As with most Melissa and Doug products, this set is very durable and made with quality materials...unlike most beach sets you'll find. I purchased the cookie, cupcake, and ice cream sets as well as the nesting pails. All are great. They provided hours of fun and I am sure will last a very long time.

My 20-month-old nephew loves his stacking cups so I bought these on impluse for Christmas when I bought a CGear Sand-free Multirug for his mother. It was his favorite toy on Christmas morning and we took it out onto the beach that afternoon to try it out in the sand. The pails are very easy to mold with, and I really like the way they nest into each other so compactly. Four pails in less space than the two we were using before, and they are small enough for him to carry by himself! The plastic seems very sturdy - I expect we will be using these for a long time.

I did not pack our beach toys when going on vacation because I assumed (incorrectly) that I would easily be able to pick up everything from the local shops. Boy was I wrong! Every store we looked in had the equivalent of Dollar Store quality beach toys. Flimsy plastic, pail handles that would immediately break off, horrible shovels that are unable to dig or lift. So I decided to look on Amazon for some quality beach stuff, get one day shipping and everyone's happy!
The Melissa and Doug Sunny patch pails are great. Thick plastic, sturdy and fun. Both little (2&8yrs) and big (43&47yrs) hands loved these pails. Able to hold wet heavy sand without distorting shape, sizes are great for a variety of projects, and the different images on the bottom of each pail really delighted our two year old over and over and over and over again. Very happy customer!
