Basically just a practice tool Nov 20, 2008
By Kirstin M. Sampson
""Andy's mom""
First I'll say that, like anything else I've ever purchased by Melissa & Doug, this item is very well-made. Very chunky, very sturdy, nice weight, smooth to touch. However, the shoe was not exactly what I was expecting. I assumed, since the product description mentioned "teaches your child", that there would be some sort of accompanying pamphlet, containing tips/tricks for the child. There is just the shoe and that's it. So I would consider this to be just a "practice shoe", nothing more. Had I known this before, I would not have purchased this item, since my son can use any old shoe in our house to practice on.

great tool for learning Feb 24, 2009
By Pathetic.Chicken.Poo My daughter was struggling to learn how to tie her shoes in kindergarden this year. And we had tried using other methods to teach her but the shoe lace on this shoe is great. It's thick enough for her small hands to manage and within the first day of trying, she learned how to tie a shoe. A friend recommened this shoe to me and I recommend it to everybody I know.
I wish it had come with either the "bunny Ears" or the "around the tree" directions but it didn't come with either. I had to get online and find them since its been 20 some odd years since I learned how to tie my shoes and couldn't remember how they went. We tried both with my daughter but she grasped the "around the tree" best.

Learning Tool Oct 03, 2007

This lace up sneaker is awesome. After I convinced my 4 year old he could not wear it, it has been a great learning tool. It is really good sized and easy to teach and practice on. Another quality Melissa and Doug product!

not a big deal Jul 25, 2010
By Alina Vail CO This toy was disappointing.
Little kids keep trying to put their foot inside instead of learning how to lace and tie. Because of the way it's made, little kids have the opportunity to hurt their feet by trying to put it on the foot and walk.
It is pretty big, great colors, we appreciated the look and feel of the wood, but the design is simply not appropriate.
Overall, it makes more sense as a decorative toy up on a shelf in a toddler's room, than as an educational toy.

Joshua learns to tie his shoe Aug 25, 2009

"duchess"
My grandson got such a thrill out of this shoe. I believe it actually made him want to learn to tie his shoe. He could not for the life of him grasp the concept of tying his shoes before I purchased this toy. The day it arrived in the mail, he started practicing and did not stop until he learned to tie his shoe. He learned the same day!! He was so excited, as was I. To think, the day before he got the shoe he couldn't tie his shoes, the day he got the shoe, he learned as if it were the easiest thing in the world for him to do. He did not get frustrated or give up like before he got the shoe. It was an excellent investment but, I couldn't help but wonder, "wow too bad he didn't learn to do this before I ordered the shoe", he only had it one day and already it had served its purpose.
