I think having a placemat at the table is a great learning tool. Just think how many times a day and for how long your child will be looking at this placemat, sometimes 3 times a day for 10 minutes at a time. My son plays with his placemat when it isn't mealtime. I purchased the special crayons but I didn't know that you can also use pencils on it too.
The only problem I have with the placemat is that the pictures wear off. I was surprised though that it was as thick of a plastic as it was. I would buy this again.

Bought this for a 2 yr old to help her sit still while mom is fixing dinner. It worked soooo well that she wants me to buy a 2nd one! The only complaint is that the crayons are a bit fragile in the mechanism used to move the crayon "up" for further usage. That needs a little work, but that is a small problem. Overall great item!
