Good console- still has some life left... Jun 09, 2010
By JRS I've owned one of these for something like 5-6 years, and have always found it to be reliable. Since consoles don't tend to have a shelf life of much more than a few years (since the makers move on to a new system), I have been especially surprised by the versatility and extended life of this particular console. I own a PS3, and have several friends who own Wii's, and I can say that the Xbox 360 is best suited for the individual who wants more challenge than a Wii, but may not want to spring on the (at least for the forseeable future) more expensive PS3.
I won't debate whether the PS3 is a better system, because there are benefits to both. As a general rule, if you/your gamer is more into sports games, major-licensed titles, or perhaps the (as-of-now) unreleased Natal system, then this is the console for you. The Xbox 360 has been around long enough that software developers have learned the best ways to utilize the in-game engine capabilities of the system.
If you are looking for something more oriented to RPG's (especially JRPG's) and similar titles, or are looking to stay with a system that has yet to reach its full potential, look at a PS3. I am NOT saying that the PS3 is a better system, merely that developers have spent much more time working with Microsoft to get the game engines operating more efficiently.
If you are looking for a relatively casual system, but more powerful than the Wii, I would highly recommend the Xbox 360.
All things considered, the Xbox 360 is a reliable, still-relevant piece of gaming hardware that will provide plenty of entertainment for at least another few years.
